David and Lisa's Greek Orthodox Wedding | San Luis Obispo, CA

September 13, 2013

It happened on a warm sunny day in a little Greek Orthodox Church.  Lisa and David stood side by side and committed themselves to each other.

It's been 6 years since I've seen a Greek Orthodox wedding (Cathy and mine) but being a spectator let me see all the things I missed the first time.  The Orthodox service is very traditional and like all other weddings, full of meaning.  For instance, in the GO Church, rings are exchanged to signify that when married, the weaknesses of one will be compensated by the strength of the other.  Vows are not spoken and the words, "til death do us part" are not said.  The Church believes that Christ destroyed death and the marriage union is eternal.

I still smile when I think about how nervous and excited David was.  I've only known them a short time, but it seems to me that they are perfect for each other and they truly are the love of each other's lives. Beautiful ceremony and no GO wedding is complete without some Greek Dancing at the reception!
